Course Description: Provisions and reserves has been a topical area throughout the pandemic. Companies in distress have been recognising more provisions. Others have been thinking hard about whether reserve levels justify dividend payments. This course will iron out all the key issues. Topics include:

  • Key recognition criteria for provisions and how they apply in practice

  • How provisions get presented in financial statements and where it can go wrong

  • Common types of reserves and what they can be used for

  • Refresher on dividend capacity rules and the consequences of making illegal dividend payments

About the Presenter: Peter is a director of Insight Training. Peter qualified as a Chartered Accountant with an international accountancy firm before working in industry. With over 20 years of training experience, Peter writes and presents technical updates for managers and partners of national firms of accountants and qualified accountants in both the private and public sector. Peter specialises in financial reporting (UK GAAP and IFRS), auditing, practice regulation and company law. He has a particular interest in charity, academy and pension scheme accounting and audit.
